The Beast of Infinite Possibility
'Objekt PS-1' (Простейший Спутник-1), the first satellite sent to space before the Universal Century. PS stands for Prosteishiy Sputnik. Crudely translated, it means ‘Basic Satellite’.Prosteishiy means ‘change in trajectory’ or ‘beginning’.
Sputnik means ‘An Orbiting Companion’.
The great meaning of these words, is what the P. Sputnik bloodline has lived by.They are children of the stars, destined to cause great change.

Welcome to this character page. I go by tag Efstar, but most of you know me as Effie. I am 25 years old and currently in college. Since work can be rather inconsistent, please be patient with me when we write.Mariana Prosteishiy Sputnik is a character made with primarily the Gundam Universal Century verse in mind.Mariana goes by she/her and is a trans woman who is diagnosed with BPD and PTSD. Hailing from a frigid Research Colony, Mari has gone on a long journey which has gone from the far away colonies in Zeon, to the darkest corners of the Federation. Please make sure to read her bio before interacting.PS: I Am well aware the name is somewhat silly. This was on purpose, since Gundam names are quite goofy.Thank yous and credits:

Mariana is in decent shape.
She cares little for the dress code, often wearing the uniform very casually. Her hair is thick and curly, with grey eyes that have an olive hue that feel like they can see right through you.Her most prominent feature is the stitches across her body. These come from her Cyber Enhancements.Personality:Reserved, brooding, and gentle, Mariana largely remains enigmatic, rarely revealing her true state of mind. She can appear asocial and sometimes even haughty, occasionally lashing out or making blunt remarks. Despite this, she shows concern and worries about the situations people around her are in. She is loyal, emotional, fearless in battle, and a dreamer. As far back as her childhood, Mariana was outspoken about a better future being possible. However, for her entire life, she has struggled to find out how, but she continues to chase those answers. She hates war, but thanks to being subjugated to the Titans' Cyber Newtype research & development and her upbringing, she believes she will always be on the battlefield. Furthermore, she has an emotional attachment to her Mobile Suit, seeing it as the one companion she has on the battlefield who shares the guilt of the lives taken and the pride in victories obtained.Mariana's condition, after the Cyber Newtype experimentation, makes her prone to radical changes, which directly clash against the emotional restraints put on her by the Titans; as a result, she suffers from rapid mood swings and, sometimes, a nigh-crippling anxiety. These are usually followed by deep sorrow and grief over her previous 'self' that she struggles to recall thanks to Dissociative Amnesia. Her most notable 'quirk' is that she has a White Whale: The Gundam. She hates them to an obsessive degree, believing them to be a curse on her family that will drive them insane or to their deaths. One of the effects of her obsession is her desire for control. This is evident in her perfectionist and control freak tendencies. A feature that, under stress, makes her hysterical, valuing victory and conquest above all and disregarding concession as weakness. When this obsession takes hold of her, she dissociates and experiences major personality changes. The levels on which this obsession operates vary. The 'closer' it is, the more intense it becomes, turning more and more into a blind rage, rather than a justifiable sorrow.Abilities/Training:During the Gryps Conflict, Mariana was taken away from Anaheim Electronics Industrial College and was among the first to be turned into a Cyber Newtype. As a result, she can control psycommu waves and has enhanced senses. She has enhanced human reflexes and endurance for the harshness of space. The depth of her senses is undefined.
The Beast of Infinite Possibility
Early years
Mariana was born on October 4, U.C. 0071 to Pavlo Prosteishiy Sputnik and Tamara Prosteishiy Sputnik in Side 3 'Munzo', Research Colony 5. As far as her family's history goes, they were obsessed with space. Somewhere during the early years of Zeon Zum Deikun's political career, Pavlo moved to Side 3, where he met Tamara. When Side 3 became the Republic of Zeon, they later married after finishing studies at the Minovsky Physics Society, where they met. Thanks to their shared talents, both were moved to Research Colony 5. Here, Mariana was born.
Research Colony 5 was funded by Luio & Co through clandestine subvention due to the Earth Federation's increasing pressure against the cause for Spacenoid Independence.RC-5 was also known as the Winter Colony. Thanks to it running purely on Luio & Co's payroll, which was limited due to the Earth Federation Sanctions on Zeon, the Colony had many issues because of low funding. As a result, the temperature control of the colony was often out of commission, resulting in a 'forever winter'. Thanks to this, Mariana lived through a rather uneventful childhood. Mariana, ironically, was unable to see the stars her parents had worked so hard for. Thanks to it being a closed-type colony, the only skyline was the artificial one made with the screens that decorated the walls of the colony.Another one of RC-5's core traits was that it had the Research Centre in the middle. The entire colony was built around it. All residential areas were made up of various types of mass-produced apartment buildings, giving the colony the appearance that it was made out of square towers. Occasionally, these areas were broken up by small shopping streets for essentials. A few youth centres were also scattered around nearby school areas. Sometimes, Luio & Co would be able to import Zeon or Earth Federation entertainment such as books, movies and music, which it spread through shops, libraries, and youth centres. As a result, RC-5 was a clash between a rigid state-sanctioned society and underground rebellion among youth.Things would become worse for the Colony as the One Year War came around, and life in RC-5 became increasingly stale and empty. Much of the youth had volunteered, and with the passage of time, many were forcibly conscripted to sustain the war. These people included Mariana and her father, who had signed up for the Reserves many years before they decided to start a family. He ended up piloting a Gaw (Attack Carrier Aircraft) on Earth, participating in a multitude of dangerous missions. Most notably, he piloted the Gaw that was responsible for safely dropping the Red Wolf Squadron into the Romanian theatre of the One Year War. Unfortunately, this was at the cost of his own machine. The infamous Gaw 'Sputnik' was shot down shortly after the squadron had gotten out. As a result, Pavlo ended up in enemy territory after making his way out through the escape hatch.Pavlo survived, but his crew did not. He buried his crew. When he turned on his radio, he heard they had taken back Cluj-Napoca. The military base has strategic importance for Zeon in maintaining its military dominance over Southeastern Europe, and its proximity to Zeon's European stronghold in Odessa made Cluj-Napoca a priority in maintaining the vital resource and economic lifeline between Side 3 and the Earth. The message he got over the radio was simple: If he got to the retaken military base, he'd be part of the personnel sent back to space so he could go back to piloting. But just as the base came into view after an eighteen-hour journey one could only describe as hell, a massive raid took place involving the RX-78(G)E Gundam EX.Following the devastation caused by the Gundam, Zeon its forces made a run for Odessa, where they would regroup with the remaining forces. During this journey, they were relentlessly hunted by the Gundam and Federation forces. This made a great hatred for Gundam grow in Pavlo's heart, born from a fear so pure he didn't even know he was capable of feeling it. When they finally reached Jaburo, the evacuation orders had already been sent. Sent into space using HLV's, the last thing he saw as he left Earth was a defenceless HLV get shot down by the same Gundam.During the war, Mariana was under the care of her mother. Who had grown increasingly depressed as the war deteriorated her father's psyche. This, alongside the lack of supplies coming to the colony thanks to the war, made life hard on RC-5. Not wanting to fall into despair, Mariana's mother delved deep into her research. When her father returned, there was a short-lived happiness that quickly vanished when reality came knocking at their door. He was no longer the man he was before the war.The endless winter continued, and Mariana grew older. As time went on, she had slowly started to internalise the conversations between her mother and her father. The day their normal life went to hell, it was all because of the Gundam and the Federation. Her parents had dedicated themselves even further to research, hoping it would one day undermine the Gundam by making a suit that could outpace it. However, as of U.C. 0084, Luio & Co bought the Research and all its components. With the defeated Principality of Zeon restructured back into the Republic of Zeon, Luio & Co no longer had to dance around the rules.
The researchers, in turn, were sent off to Industrial 7, where Luio & Co had multiple assets.
Moving to the Federation, much to the dismay of her parents, who still strongly subscribed to Zeon its believes, they were now officially a part of Luio & Co. Many big families were, and the Sputniks ' legacy was quite big too. As a result, Mariana had major expectations looming over her. She was to uphold the image of her family, but also follow in their footsteps. Funded by Luio & Co, after her time in High School, she'd be sent straight to Anaheim Electronics Industrial College. Ironically, this academy belonged to a rival foundation, but there was no legal basis on which to reject Mariana. However, she had to perform academically beforehand.High school became a difficult affair, as Mariana struggled with identity and had to keep up appearances, which she simply couldn't. The war had affected her too, and much more than the Federation citizens she shared classes with. Casted out for being from Zeon, Mariana grew rebellious, despite not wanting to be and often got in fights. This led to her becoming a 'stain' on an otherwise 'perfect' little corner of society. She often felt like a burden and felt great guilt for feeling bad about the war despite her parents having endured worse.
Whilst life did become a lot more luxurious on Industrial 7, Mariana would feel alone both in school and at home, where her parents were either emotionally distant or away on business trips for Luio & Co.After finishing high school, she entered Anaheim Electronics Industrial College in the Mobile Suit Development Wing. Here she'd spend much of her time as a test pilot and engineer.
In AEIC, she performed decently: Whilst not great at physics or science, she had engineering down and was especially promising as a test pilot despite being an Old Type. Good with technology, Mariana specialised in making personalised interfaces for other pilots. In the simulations, she was one of the top performers in mock mobile suit duels. Mariana her somewhat extravagant nature made her fit in with others in college. Rather than being an outcast like in middle school on RC-5, or the High School she attended on the very same colony.
In her time at the Academy, Mariana began to find happiness again. She formed bonds that defined her and reminded her there was good in the world. However, the pressure remained of living up to Luio & Co its requirements and her parents' watchful eyes. However, the winds of war came rolling in once more, as the Titans would make their rise to power.During UC87, the Titans took a multitude of young test pilots and scientists off the regular AEIC program and into a program for their own ends. Mariana, a test pilot who had shown great potential, was among those taken by the Titans. Since Mariana was an Oldtype, she was subjected to the Titans' research on artificially making Newtypes.Mariana received physical and mental enhancements, including organ transplants, biotechnological modifications, and chemicals that increase reaction speed and radiation resistance. This, like most 'subjects', was against her will. Due to Mariana's protesting against many of the surgeries, she gained stitches on her face and body from wounds gained by her fighting against the researchers and surgeons. As a result, Cyber Newtypes are also subjected to extensive hypnotic conditioning, in which their personalities and memories are manipulated to make them into more effective soldiers. However, this process has the unfortunate side effect of rendering them mentally unstable, with some even having personality disorders. Mariana also received such conditioning. She was conditioned to respond to the alias 'Ghost Crab'. The side effect involves memory loss and the inability to remember ongoing events later.Under the code name 'Ghost Crab', she would operate the PMX-000 Messala for the last months of the conflict. Accepting the grim reality to survive, she became nobody. Someone who snipped off her own memories. Each order was just another step closer to the end.
Her indifference had made her forget all the faces she once cared about, and back home, she was assumed dead. But no matter how much she tried to push away the feelings, she wanted to escape. However, there was one pattern Mariana could not stop noticing. With the Titans and Federation having Gundams of their own, time and time again, Mariana witnessed the Gundams bringing about the greatest atrocities of this war. To her, the Gundam was a curse placed on her family. One that was going to consume everyone one by one. Her true enemy was Gundam.
Researchers concluded that another side effect of the conditioning was that the Gundam was her Moby-Dick.At the height of her despair, she met Paptimus Scirroco, who had come by to oversee the project as the Titans had been counting severe losses, including losses from a failed escape attempt she herself was involved in. Expecting punishment, he instead would offer Mariana words of affinity and acknowledgement, hiding his true nature.
This lie, however, saved her from falling into despair, creating a trauma bond with a man she never really knew.
As news spread of his true goals and that the words that had saved her were a lie just to keep her in check, she finally broke down and was no longer fit for combat. With the end of the Gryps conflict, Mariana, among others, was taken into custody by the Federation. Tried for their crimes, Mariana was let go due to inconclusive evidence, her young age, and being seen more as a victim of the Titans rather than one of their allies. Thanks to the trials, the Sputnik name came under scrutiny. Unable to live with the shame and his failures as a father, Pavlo left Mariana and went missing shortly after. When Mariana returned to the academy, she rarely recognised anyone due to the damage to her memory. With her academic skills intact however, she stayed at AEIC.
Dragging herself through the last year and a half, she would graduate. But her victory felt empty: The faces that cheered for her were strangers, the eyes she stared at in the mirror were not hers. She had gained senses that scared her and had blood on her hands. The scars ran deep. But she had endured, and survived.
Neo Zeon
In the following years, Mariana slowly came back to her senses as she got to live a regular life again. But she had grown distant from her mother, who did not back her up following the tragedies that unfolded, which put a rift between her and her mother.During this era of indecision, Mariana mostly worked on Mobile Suit projects at AEIC and relayed research or sometimes even finished suits back to Luio & Co. Having at least a 'duty' to hold onto, Mariana started to become one of the faces in the crowd. But as the days passed, the fight in her heart continued to desire more. She couldn't pretend to be normal with so many stones unturned: The Titans who had turned her into this were still out there, her father, the Gundam, the Federation's crimes. And finally, there was a nagging feeling in the back of her mind that would not go away. She had forgotten a promise, and she must find out what it was.But out there was a guiding star: Zeon.Mariana had disappeared overnight, leaving behind the Federation, her mother, and the few friends that remained. Mariana had refused to be one of the faces in the crowd. After a daring escape from Industrial 7. She joined Neo Zeon, which needed pilots following the losses faced during the first Neo Zeon war. Thanks to her experience piloting MS, Mariana managed to climb the ranks at a decent pace.During the Second Neo Zeon War, Mariana had proven her worth and was eventually assigned an AMX-107. With this suit, she fought during the Axis Drop. However, she was defeated by the Gundam in combat. When the Axis drop failed and Zeon scattered, Mariana ran off to Earth. On Earth, she was able to find refuge in New Hong Kong. During this time, she once more worked for Luio & Co, which needed able operatives. Once she had lived up to her end of the deal with Luio & Co, she was given a ship to travel back to Palau, where the new Neo Zeon element, the Sleeves, were stationed. Here she became known as 'Lieutenant Sputnik', call sign 'Sea Wasp' piloting the AMX-107 Bawoo. As tensions rose for the Sleeves and more combat sorties unfolded, development for a unique suit of her own began. The AMX-107R Rebawoo 'Sputnik'. Development started with Full Frontal's command, as a favour for being a valuable companion who lives up to her name. Additionally, she would often test-pilot Sleeve MS in preparation for the war to come, occasionally sortieing in other suits. She now aims to hunt down 'Laplace's Box', hoping its truths are the key to no one ever going through what she did again, and break the family curse. She hopes to change the world's trajectory: A new beginning.A dream of endless hope.
The Beast of Infinite Possibility
PMX-000 MessalaPrior to the Messala, she primarily spent her time in the simulator. After being taught to pilot in an RMS-106, she was assigned the Messala late into the war. Thanks to its extreme speeds and specialty in long and close range combat, this Assault Mobile Armour would come to define her piloting style.
AMX-107 BawooMariana piloted a Bawoo in the second Neo Zeon War and would do so once more when joining the Sleeves, where she piloted a modernised variant. The AMX-107 Bawoo is capable of transforming and separating into the Bawoo Attacker (upper torso) and autonomous Bawoo Nutter (lower torso) units. As a result, she can employ tactics similar to those when piloting the PMX-000<CURRENT MOBILE SUIT>
AMX-107R ReBawoo 'Sputnik'
Built off the established research on the ReBawoo, this variant is fully suited to fit Mari her needs. The limiters have been taken off, and it used experimental thrusters in order to obtain high speeds. The ReBawoo is still capable of transforming and separating into the Bawoo Attacker (upper torso) and autonomous Bawoo Nutter (lower torso) units.Additionally, the suit comes with six funnels that can shape the battlefield to her will. Restricting movement through beam fields, she is able to keep a target in her scope right where she wants them. They can also help in taking out incoming projectiles. Their high output sacrifices the maneuverability funnels usually may have.Arsenal:ShieldThough similar in shape to the original Rebawoo's shield, this one lacks the mega particle cannons of the original and instead stores the beam partizan as well as the funnels. When the Rebawoo separates into the Rebawoo Attacker and Rebawoo Nutter, the shield is attached to the underside of the Attacker.Beam PartizanA pole arm which can generate high convergence-rate beam blades extending from one end. For a melee weapon, it boasts a broad effective attack range. Generates a beam with a golden glow.Even in Melee Combat, Mari keeps people at a distance.Beam VulcanA pair of beam Vulcans are mounted on the inner side of the chest intakes.4-tube Grenade LauncherA 4-tube grenade launcher is mounted on each forearm. Generally used for intimidation or diversionary tactics, a pilot with good aim can use the grenades to destroy specific targets, disable weapons and deal damage in various ways.Machine CannonA pair of machine cannons are mounted in the top of the side skirt armor.Flexible Beam GunAttached to the side of each leg is a flexible beam gun that position themselves for the Rebawoo Nutter to use.AMM-06H MissileThe Rebawoo can carry three missiles on each flexible wing binders and also three on each side skirt armor, for a total of twelve missiles. The missiles can be used in Rebawoo Attacker mode and MS mode.Beam RifleThe Rebawoo uses the same beam rifle as used by the MSN-06S Sinanju. When the Rebawoo separates into the Rebawoo Attacker and Rebawoo Nutter, the beam rifle is attached to the underside of the Attacker.

Mariana -Palau-Many of the Zekes who fought during the Neo Zeon War were deemed criminals by the Federation, further alienating many spacenoids. Mariana was one of the many displaced. A lot of her free time is spent in Palau. Due to limited resources, she often has to wear slightly older clothes.Artist: Deunamist
